Photo: richardgrost.com| The Mexican Department of Fisheries is considering a proposal that would allow the commercial harvest with longlines of dolphin, a gamefish that is extremely valuable to Mexico’s sportfishing economy. If the proposal is enacted, the harvest might not be limited to dolphin in Mexican waters. Scientists who study the migration patterns of tagged fish have identified dolphin that travel between the Atlantic Coast of the United States to Mexico.
A decision from the Department of Fisheries is expected soon but was unavailable at press time.
