The owner of Grady-White Boats, Edward C. “Eddie” Smith, Jr., was inducted into the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Hall of Fame in a ceremony at February’s Miami Boat Show. Smith entered the marine industry in 1968 when his family purchased the company he now heads. His pioneering leadership helped bring about the walkaround cabin boat and popularize center-console fishing boats. Smith was instrumental in the merger of the Boating Industry Association and the National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers, which created the NMMA. The NMMA Hall of Fame was instituted in 1988 to recognize and honor marine-industry leaders for their pursuit of quality and innovation, as well as for their lasting contributions to the advancement of the recreational boating industry.
