Garmin has taken two of its popular handheld GPS receivers and rolled them into one unit, the GPS 12MAP ($425). It combines the software features of the GPS III Plus with the rugged design of the GPS 12. Similar to the GPS III Plus, the basemap of the GPS 12MAP includes cartography information for North and South America, including a database of cities and coastlines. What’s more, the unit can accept downloaded map data from Garmin’s MapSource line of CD-ROMs. Garmin, Olathe, KS; (913) 397-8200.
