The folks at Shark DundeeEnterprises have recently developed two new hook removers (theycall them “Hook Retrievers”). The large Retriever ($60)is 6′ long and perfect for removing hooks from the maws of largesharks, billfish and tuna. There is a cupped remover on one endand a pointed metal tip on the other for precision work. The metalshaft features two cushioned grips for a secure hold. To use thedevice, slip the fishing line or leader into the slit along thehollow shaft and twist the end to prevent the line from slippingfree. Then slide the Retriever down the line until the end reachesthe hook shaft. While maintaining a tight line, push the shaftforward to dislodge the hook. Shark Dundee also makes a smallerRetriever ($25) that is perfect for removing hooks from smallerspecies. Shark Dundee Enter prises, Santa Ana, CA 92704; (714)641-2992. www.sharkdundee.com.
