Joining Tohatsu's line of environmentally friendly yet powerful direct-injection outboards is a brand-new 70-hp two-stroke model. Featuring state-of-the-art air/fuel technology combined with proven two-stroke operation, the 70 TLDI delivers excellent performance and economy. According to Tohatsu, the engine's efficient combustion system (fuel is atomized and positioned precisely for optimal burn) uses just 6.4 gallons per hour at full throttle (5500 rpm), and oil consumption is greatly reduced. Acceleration is smooth and sharp throughout the speed range, and operation is quiet thanks to the single air intake. The engine is made of high-grade aluminum alloy and internal water passages are zinc-coated for corrosion resistance. Other features include power trim/tilt, through-prop exhaust, start-in-gear protection, an over-rev limiter and a self-diagnostic system that warns the operator of engine problems, including low battery voltage and oil level. There's even a memory feature that allows the user to return to pre-set idle and trolling speeds with the push of the key. The 70 TLDI weighs in at 317 lbs. and comes with a 2-year limited warranty.
