Avet’s new MXL lever-drag reel ($199) is perfect for anglers who want to tame big fish on light tackle. The MXL features a 100-percent machined-aluminum, one-piece frame that’s anodized for corrosion resistance. Six stainless ball bearings deliver smooth operation, while the AveDrag lever-drag system provides a maximum 16 lbs. of stopping power (9 lbs. at strike). The powerful little reel weighs in at 18.2 oz. and has a 4.5:1 gear ratio, as well as an adjustable cast control to help prevent backlashes or to aid in live-lining. The MXL will hold 360 yds. of 20 lb. test and is available in gold, silver and blue finishes, in left- or right-hand retrieve. Avet Industries, Chatsworth, CA; (818) 576-9895; www.avetreels.com.
