The AquaFix 406 GPS Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) from ACR Electronics received final FCC approval. The PLB is available in two models: the AquaFix 406 GPS I ($640), which connects via interface cable to a GPS unit; and the AquaFix 406 GPS I/O ($750), which connects to a GPS unit but also has an internal GPS receiver. Both units transmit a digitally coded distress signal on the 406 MHz frequency to the orbiting COSPAS-SARSAT satellite systems, and simultaneously transmit a signal on 121.5 MHz, the seach-and-rescue homing frequency. The units measure 1.74 by 5.71 by 3.03 inches and weigh 12 ounces. ACR Electronics, Fort Lauderdale, FL; (954) 981-3333; www.acrelectronics.com.
