New Jersey Unveils A New Menu

|| |—| || |WEAK STOMACH: Some fish have high PCB levels.| New Jersey is advising residents to watch what they eat-at least when it comes to local seafood. Due to elevated PCB levels found in fish from Delaware Bay, the state recommends residents limit their consumption of bay fish to the following:

One meal of bluefish under 14 inches per month

One meal of bluefish greater than 14 inches per year

The state plans to complete another study soon to better assess the issue.

Angling Survey to Get Revamped
After years of complaints by anglers to the National Marine Fisheries Service about the flawed Marine Recreational Fishing Statistics Survey, the National Research Council (NRC), an independent scientific body from the National Academy of Sciences, has agreed with the anglers and their concerns. The NRC said the data-collection system “uses inadequate analysis methods that need to be addressed.” The criticism prompted a recommendation by the NRC for a complete redesign of the program.
