Few places in the world carry the fishing legacy of the Florida Keys, where generations of anglers have chased world records and unforgettable catches. On this trip, creators Ryan Izquierdo and Aaron Benzrihem set their sights on Key West, fishing out of Ocean’s Edge Resort & Marina on board the Mako 24 Apex bay boat.
Over several days, they worked nearshore reefs and grass flats, targeting red grouper, mutton snapper, and lane snapper. Strong winds kept them close to shore, forcing constant adjustments as they drifted, jigged, and flat-lined baits to coax bites from stubborn bottom fish. The grind paid off, filling the cooler with a solid mix of species, and the adventure wrapped with a dockside spread—fresh snapper and grouper served at the Yellowfin Bar and Kitchen, a fitting end to a hard-fought trip in one of saltwater fishing’s most iconic destinations.
