I once lost a lip gripper after a tarpon jerked it right out of my hand, so I came up with a system to retrieve my gripper if it ever went overboard again. I attached one carabiner to my boat and another to the gripper and then connected them with a retractable dog leash. With a 16-foot leash I can walk around my boat without having to remove the gripper from the carabiner.
