Photo: Courtesy of Stephan Kretzschmar| SWS reader Stephan Kretzschmar caught this snapper off the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Kretzschmar said the fish is known locally as a “quaker.” We ran it by Dr. Tomio Iwamoto of the California Academy of Sciences for an ID. The fish is a Cardinal snapper (Pristipomoides macrophthalmus). This western Atlantic species can be found in water as deep as 1,800 feet.
