Biscayne Bay and Flamingo Florida Bay Report

Yesterday we had over 30 shots on tailing or floating fish...

This time of year in Biscayne Bay when air temps are around 83 and water temps in the low to mid 70s, you should be looking for tailing permit.

Normally this time of year I am looking for pilchards for bait for the great mutton snapper bite we have been having, but with these Permit being around?.I have to try for them!

Yesterday we had over 30 shots on tailing or floating fish but could not seal the deal, after the breeze picked up and the fish scattered we found Snook all over the place and spooked them out of a spot I was not prepared to see them at(crazy)!! Well to round out a crazy day we went bone fishing since we were fishing the flats anyway. Well here we go again – dark high water in the afternoon with a stiff breeze (which makes seeing them difficult) we must have had over 20 shots on bones that were 20 feet from the boat?. frustrating day. Next week the fishing should be the same in Biscayne Bay but hopefully we will get a better bite??. along with good fishing on the patch reefs and in the finger channels for mutton snapper that should be real good.

At Flamingo and Florida Bay little tarpon on warm calm mornings have been pretty good around some of the island motes finger channels and on the edges of some flats, most poonies are 20 pounds but there are some up to 80 pounds in the mix. They have been eating real small dark flies.

On the last part of the outgoing tide we have been finding large Snook on some of the runoffs waiting to ambush bait. The next week large Tarpon should be in the lakes to the north and normally these fish eat flies real well.

The sea trout and Spanish mackerel bite has also been red hot on the Gulf side and should only get better as we get cooler temps.
