Keeping rods straight for loading, unloading and cleanup at the dock is a snap with this custom recessed rack. Cut 1 1⁄4-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe into 11 1⁄4-inch lengths. Drill 11⁄64-inch holes 2 inches from the bottom ends. Drill 1 3⁄4-inch holes through the deck boards of the dock, adjacent to and on the inside of the stringer. Drop the PVC pieces into the dock — flush with the deck — and fasten the bottom end to the stringer with 3-inch 10D common galvanized nails through the holes at the bottom ends. Apply clear sealant around the top edges. For larger rods, simply use a larger pipe and nails. This setup gets a lot of compliments and costs less than $5.
