NOAA Requests Public Comments on Proposed Sea Bass Regulations

South Atlantic black sea bass public comment period ends April 23

Amendment 18A to the Snapper Grouper Fishery Management Plan includes measures to implement an endorsement program for the commercial black sea bass pot fishery; establish a 1,000 pound commercial trip limit; and increase the minimum size limit for black sea bass from 10″ to 11″ (total length) for the commercial fishery and from 12″ to 13″ (total length) for the recreational fishery.

Note: The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council has requested an emergency rule to delay the opening of the commercial black sea bass fishery until implementation of Amendment 18A, but no later than July 1, 2012. The recreational season for black sea bass will open as scheduled on June 1, 2012.
