John E. Phillips of Birmingham, Alabama, Salt Water Sportsman’s regional editor for Alabama and northwest Florida, is the latest recipient of the Homer Circle Fishing Communicator Award, presented by the Professional Outdoor Media Association and the American Sportfishing Association. The award recognizes journalists who exhibit exceptional talent, dedication to fishing and a commitment to mentoring the rising generation of outdoor communicators as exemplified by outdoor journalist Homer Circle during his storied career. Phillips is one of the industry’s most prolific communicators. In 2007 he was inducted into the National Fresh Water Hall of Fame as a Legendary Communicator. He has published thousands of magazine articles and newspaper columns and 42 books. He’s been a magazine editor, magazine and catalog photographer lecturer, radio personality, outdoor and marketing consultant, and daily Internet content provider. He is president of Nighthawk Publishing and Creative Concepts. Phillips was presented the award during the New Product Showcase at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, better known as ICAST, which is taking place this week in Orlando, Florida.
