Comfort You Can Stand

comfort_stand.jpg

I recently had some surgery that has made me very sensitive to the normal pounding I take on my center console. To lessen the effects of the pounding, I purchased a 3′ by 3′ rubber automotive pad at my local auto-supply store. I found that the single thickness of the pad did not give me enough cushioning, so I cut the pad into 1′-wide strips. Then I placed one pad on top of the other to double the thickness and lashed them together with 300-pound mono. The pad is designed with feet on the bottom, so it does not slip on the deck at all. It fits perfectly between the leaning post and the console, and I now stand in comfort for long runs offshore with no problem. The total cost was about $30.
