Umbrella Understanding

umbrella_understanding.jpg

During spring striper season, I troll 7 rods on my 20′ center console, using a mix of umbrella rigs, double bucktails and big spoons. Since I cannot lock my gear on the boat, I have to pack it up every time, and I can never remember which rod goes where in my trolling spread. I made wooden trays with pegboard bottoms to keep my gear organized. Each tray is numbered to correspond with a rod in the trolling spread and has exposed screws in the corners to control the umbrellas. The polyurethane finish and pegboard bottoms allow me to rinse my gear, and corner blocks on the bottom of each tray let me stack them – and keep them stacked for easy storage and transport.
