I don’t mind saying that I’m a little bit compulsive when it comes to cleaning my boat. After years of suffering those ugly black scuff marks on the bow after launching, I’ve come up with a simple fix that is dirt-cheap and works like a charm. I start with a doormat made of indoor-outdoor carpeting and cut a square big enough to overlap all sides of the V-block on my trailer. Some mats of this type have a thin covering on the underside: If that’s the case, be sure to remove it so the glue can grip well. Next, I apply a heavy coat of contact cement on both the V-block and the backside of the mat. When the cement is dry, apply the mat to the V-block and trim off the edges. I installed mine over a year ago, and it still works great.
