We took 9-foot seven- and nine-weight fly rods with matching reels equipped with weight-forward floating lines. Bonefish leaders were 10 feet with 8-pound tippet; permit leaders were 12 feet with 15-pound tippet. Although we mostly targeted permit, we had good success for bonefish with size 4 and 6 McVey’s Gotcha flies. We caught all of our permit on size 2/0 Del’s Merkin flies in a very pale tan color.
