More Info: John Gilbert, 407-571-4716e-mail: [email protected] here’s a fishing experience with no ”catch”: The Sport Fishing/ Yamaha Outboards’ ”Learn from the Experts” Fishing Seminar. This intensive, interactive, 2 ½-hour presentation will be given Thursday, December 6, 2001, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Tampa’s Hillsborough Community College/Dale Mabry campus. The seminar will again be housed in the auditorium of the school’s student services building at 4001 Tampa Bay Blvd., directly across from Raymond James Stadium. The last in a series of nine seminars held in Florida and nationwide this year, this event culminates the third successful year of the seminars sponsored by Sport Fishing magazine, Yamaha Outboards and a number of prominent tackle manufacturers and retailers. The ticket price of $15 allows an entire family to attend and hear detailed presentations on how to catch locally hot species, such as reds and speckled trout, grouper, snapper, tarpon and king mackerel. Anglers will also learn valuable tips on wade- and fly-fishing and fishing from piers, jetties and beaches. The roster of speakers for Tampa features Capt. Dave Pomerleau, Capt. Mark Nichols, Capt. Dave Markett and Capt. Larry Blue, who will demonstrate successful techniques and display their favorite rigs and lures.Capt. Pomerleau, known as the ”Mad Snooker,” repeats his very popular and highly anecdotal presentation on where to find snook on Florida’s west coast. Having grown up on the waters around St. Petersburg, Dave’s inside information on snook fishing is always well-received. Capt. Nichols, president of D.O.A. Lures and a frequent seminar speaker, represents the mainstream style of inshore angling — using artificials with light tackle in a variety of environments, habitats and structure. The serious saltwater angler should not miss this presentation. Capt. Markett, a professional guide from Tampa, has been guiding his charters in waters along Florida’s Gulf coast for 30 years. He will share some secrets of his success in hunting for trophy redfish and trout. Capt. Blue is a full-time guide out of Seminole, Florida, who rides a 34-foot Hatteras in search of king mackerel and grouper offshore. He has guided his charters to five IGFA record catches during his 18-year career. In addition, valuable door prizes will be given away. Together with Sport Fishing magazine, Yamaha Motors is cosponsoring the event for the third year. The complete list of 2001 sponsors includes such well-known names as Penn Reels, SIMRAD Electronics, MINN-KOTA, Fish-Ng chum grinders, Hook & Tackle clothing and Cajun Injector. Other sponsors include Ande fishing line and Interlux paints. Anglers will appreciate the custom rods by Scott, Biscayne Rods and Crowder; lures by D.O.A., Yo-Zuri, Head Start, Todd’s Rigs & Lures; and polarized sunglasses by H2Optix. Noted clothing suppliers Hook ‘n Tackle and Slam Gear are also on board. New sponsors for this year’s series are Boatmat and Million Dollar Marlin. The Tourist Board of the Cayman Islands also joins this year. Everyone who registers will receive a free ROFFS Fishing Forecast for Tampa Bay and Gulf Coast waters. Those who attend any of the nine seminars qualify for the Grand Prize drawing to win either a SIMRAD DGPS CE 40 Finder/Plotter or a three-day, two-night fishing and diving vacation at Bud n’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada! ”It’s just a fun evening of fish talk and learning,” says Dean Travis Clarke, executive editor of Sport Fishing magazine and host of the seminar. ”Everyone will be treated to loads of helpful advice from experts and have chances for many, many free prizes. Each speaker will also have a table set up with their gear and rigs so anglers can talk directly with them during intermission and after the seminar. And the ticket price includes a one-year subscription or extension to Sport Fishing magazine. The whole family can attend for the single admission price, so it’s a very worthwhile evening for all.”After a successful series of seminars last year, the Sport Fishing Learn from the Experts fishing seminars repeats its very popular Thursday evening format, with the Tampa location being the ninth and final site. Seminars were well-attended in Melbourne in January, Jacksonville in February, Charleston, South Carolina, in March, Greenville, North Carolina, in April, Islamorada in May, Dania Beach, Florida, in June, Houston, Texas, in July and Biloxi, Mississippi, in September. The Tampa event promises to be a very informative evening.
