Battenkill reels have always been among the best-selling flyreels around. Now, Orvis has combined the attributes of both theoriginal Battenkill series and a lightweight, machined-aluminum barstock to create a whole new reel.
The Battenkill Bar Stock combines all the benefits anddurability of machined aluminum with the proven drag system foundin the Battenkill reels of the past. Die-cast reels can achieve acertain level of precision, but if a reel is machined from a solidpiece of stock, the manufacturing tolerances can be much tighter toprovide outstanding precision, even in an inexpensive reel.
Built in England at Orvis’ own manufacturing facility, the newBattenkill Bar Stock is 20 percent lighter than the originalBattenkill reels. It’s fully machined from lightweight 6262 T6aluminum, with an anodized finish for durability. This new reelalso features the same offset drag mechanism of the original, whichhas proven itself over the past 20 years. The brass gearing of theoffset drag is extremely durable, virtually maintenance-free, andcan be easily switched from right-hand to left-hand operation. Thereel is available in an anodized titanium or black finish, andcomes in four models, including two saltwater sizes: a 6-9 and a9-12.
