Like father, like son – Christian Fischer wins SKA’s National Junior Angler of the Year award

Ozzie and Christian, fishing as team Wolcott Marine, competed in the SKA's Division 11, featuring three tournaments in the Southwest Florida Region.

Team Century’s Ozzie Fischer is one of the most well-known and well-respected professional anglers and charter guides along Florida’s West Coast, and now a second Fischer, son Christian, is making a name of his own by winning the Southern Kingfish Association’s (SKA) National Junior Angler of the Year award.

Ozzie and Christian, fishing as team Wolcott Marine, competed in the SKA’s Division 11, featuring three tournaments in the Southwest Florida Region.  During the series’ first tournament, Christian Fischer landed a 37.93 lb. king, earning the angler top Junior honors.  During the second tournament, the angler landed a 26.60 lb. king, and the during the final tournament, Fischer landed a 56.27 lb. king, again earning top Junior honors, and helping his team to a victory.

“I am extremely proud of Christian,” says father, Ozzie.  “Going tournament kingfishing is not easy, as you are constantly dealing with the elements of weather, rough water and 100-mile runs. Christian never complains, and enjoys each and every aspect of the experience,” says Fischer.

“Christian is always challenging me to be a better angler – that’s what 11-year-olds do to their fathers.  He has taught me how to enjoy and appreciate the little things.  While I may view catching bait as a chore, he views this as a chance to catch more fish,” says Fischer.

Ozzie Fischer has been fishing tournaments in and around the Ft. Myers/Naples area for more than 15 years, and has become a household name from his many tournament victories and television show appearances.  Ozzie averages more than 400 charters annually, and has more than 50 top-five tournament finishes since 2001.
