Lately circle hooks seem to be the hottest topic in fishing. While the virtues of fishing with them are well-known, these hooks have been slow to catch on in the world of the long rod. The problem is that tying flies on circle hooks is difficult because of the shape of the hook and the short shank. That’s precisely the reason that Mustad developed the C71S SS circle streamer hook. The C71S offers all the advantages of a true circle hook but with a longer shank. The hook was designed specifically for fly tiers.
This series of stainless-steel, forged, nor-tempered hooks features Mustad¿’ chemically sharpened signature point and a micro barb. The hook is 2X strong, 1X long and has a straight eye. Sizes range from 1/0 down to No. 10. Mustad plans to introduce 3/0 and 2/0 sizes this fall. The C71S is designed so that virtually any type of fly can be tied on it, and it can easily be substituted for a Mustad 3407- or 34007-style hook. These sizes correspond with standard hook sizes and not those used for most circle hooks.
