Mississippi DMR collects old fishing line

Monofilament posed an entanglement threat for all marine life

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has placed 45 outdoor fishing line recycling tubes at piers and boat launches throughout the three South Mississippi counties in the campaign to reduce dangerous fishing line debris.

Monofilament posed an entanglement threat for all marine life, especially seabirds. Monofilament is non-biodegradable and can last over 500 years in the marine environment.

All line collected will be recycled by Pure Fishing America, the parent company of Berkley fishing line, to be used for tackle boxes and other products. It will not be used to make new fishing line.
