Mexico Temporarily Bans Longlines in Sea of Cortez

November 2004

Mexico’s fisheries management commission, known as Conapesca, agreed to a 90-day moratorium on longline fishing within 50 miles of any coastline until a study can be done that will give the managers the information needed to make that decision, according to the International Big Fish Network, an online fishing news source. This decision temporarily keeps the entire Sea of Cortez closed to longliners. For more information, visit www.ibfn.org.
