While yo-yoing for yellowtail at 15 to 25 fathoms with super-braid line, I found it difficult to judge how much line I had out. I tried a dab of paint at 50′ intervals, but it washed off. Then I hit upon the perfect solution! I used a needle to penetrate the line, then inserted into the line a length of white sewing thread. I tied the thread in a knot around the line and super-glued it in place. I repeated this process at 50′ intervals along the line for 200′. Now as I let line out, I count the number of knots that slip through my fingers and I know exactly how deep my jig is getting.
