Jumping 14 tarpon would be a good day by most anglers’ standards. But 14 in one morning…before lunch? Now that’s a tarpon bite. Photographer Denver Bryan witnessed such a morning off Isla Holbox, on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. “That was some of the best tarpon fishing I’ve ever experienced,” says Bryan, who took this shot of Jeremy Stott (right) with a 120-pounder. The action may have been hot off Mexico that day, but for tarpon in March, South Florida is king. Be sure to stop by the local bait shop and stock up on shrimp, small crabs and pilchards. For the best March hot spots, check out “What’s Biting Where”.
