Temple Fork Outfitters uses the phrase “light heavyweight” to describe its new BVK IV large-arbor reel. The fully machined reel weighs only 8¾ ounces, but don’t let that fool you — it was designed for big, long-running fish. The 4¾-inch-diameter spool is 13/8 inches wide and can hold as much as 300 yards of 30-pound Dacron, plus a 12-weight fly line. The fish-stopping power in the BVK IV comes from the synthetic Rulon drag material, which is maintenance-free and enclosed to keep sand and other debris out.
