While Shimano’s original TLD 2-Speeds have kept anglers cranking for almost 15 years, the company has launched a new series, showcasing the top trends in reel technology. The four new graphite-body TLDs – 20IIA, 30IIA, 50IIA and 50IILRSA (long-range special) – feature Shimano’s A-RB anti-rust bearings, ergonomic Power Handles (on the 20- and 30-size reels) and the offset Power Grip on the 50s. Shimano’s patented gear-shifting mechanism allows anglers to simply touch a button on the handle to switch between high and low gears. The 20II and 30II reels crank at a 4:1 ratio in high and 1.7:1 in low. The 20II handles 700 yards of 20-pound test; the 30II holds 600 yards of 30. The 50II and 50IILRSA feature a 3.5:1 high speed and a low gear ratio of 1.4:1. The 50II holds 700 yards of 50; the long-range special, 440 yards of 80. Retail prices range from $279.99 to $379.99.
