Is it a kayak or is it a boat? Actually, it’s a little bit of both. Hobie Cat unveiled its Mirage Pro Angler, a nifty fishing machine that combines the company’s patented MirageDrive pedal system commonly used in its kayaks with a number of fishing amenities that fly-anglers will appreciate.

It starts with a sound hull, which offers ample stability for standing and casting. The Pro Angler stretches to 13 feet, 8 inches and weighs 138 pounds. It is propelled by the MirageDrive system, in which foot pedals activate underwater flippers, zipping the boat around and leaving an angler’s arms completely free for casting. Steering is easily accomplished with a small lever next to the seat. Equipped with six horizontal rod holders, a retractable bungee system, large hatches forward and rear, and an ergonomically designed and adjustable seat, the Pro Angler can be transported atop a car, in the back of a truck or on a trailer.

MSRP is $2,199. www.hobiecat.com
