The FishStock ’05 staff closed the books on a very successful weekend festival in New Smyrna Beach, May 29, 2005, with perfect weather, a large and happy crowd of participants, and an enthusiastic core of sponsors.

With both offshore and inshore tournaments completed, FishStock tournament chairman Dan Jacobs declared the weekend a success. Competitive anglers brought to the docks record numbers of fish, including many successful sailfish hookups and releases plus one big blue marlin. Over $100,000 in cash and prizes was paid out to the anglers.

Inshore tournament sponsor Mercury Outboards delivered a 60-hp four-stroke engine worth $5,500 as raffle prize to angler Doug Stilwell of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Offshore tournament sponsor Boston Whaler awarded two boat prize packages. Buddy LaCour, of Ponce Inlet, Florida, and registered tournament angler in boat # 84 Gail Force, won the 2005 Grand Prize, a Boston Whaler 17-foot Montauk boat with a 90-hp Mercury motor and trailer combo worth over $22,500.

The second Boston Whaler, a 15-foot Sport package went to Linda Roccoforte of Cocoa Beach, Florida, a lucky participant in the WHTQ-96.5-FM boat giveaway.

In addition, Boston Whaler offered a $500 check to the angler who presented the largest fish caught in either tournament from a Boston Whaler. The inshore tournament winner was angler Greg Shamrock, boat #195. The offshore tournament winner was angler Amy Parsons of boat #48.

From a marketing standpoint, the event was equally successful. Although total dollar amounts were not monitored, marketing manager Drew Townes reported multiple boat sales on setup day, along with continued sales of boats and fishing gear throughout the event. The FishStock festival was a busy site all weekend, with activities for the youth hosted by Capt. Don Dingman of “Hook the Future” television series, saltwater fishing seminars, fly-casting instruction, numerous art exhibits, captains’ meetings, retail sales and a busy food court, in addition to the two tournaments.

Here are the final results of the two-day, third annual New Smyrna/Mercury Outboard Redfish Trout Challenge, May 28 and 29, 2005, held at Riverside Park, New Smyrna Beach.
