Fin-Nor has long been known as a leader in conventional fishing tackle, and has managed to carry that reputation right into their line of fly-fishing gear. The newest addition to that line is the second generation of its Fin-ite series of fly reels.
These new direct-drive reels are machined from aircraft-grade bar-stock aluminum and manufactured with the precision and quality for which Fin-Nor is famous. This new reel is equipped with two stainless-steel ball bearings, in addition to a one-way clutch bearing and a roller-thrust bearing. The roller-thrust bearing is designed to take up less space than traditional radial ball bearings, so it is able to withstand greater thrust loads and still yield a smooth rotation. The one-way clutch bearing eliminates play and allows for quick right-to-left hand conversion without tools. The drag is an oversized Teflon-impregnated cork disc.
Fin-ite II fly reels are available in four sizes, but the two that will most interest saltwater fly rodders are the 6.8-ounce 8/9 with a capacity of 200 yards of 20-pound backing, and the 8.5-ounce 10+ with a capacity of 375 yards of 20-pound backing. The 8/9 carries a suggested retail price of $329.95; the 10+ will retail for $339.95. Each reel is individually numbered and comes with a neoprene reel cover and a one-year factory warranty.
