We had so many double hookups that day, we started racing to see who could get his fish in faster,” says photographer David J. Sams, right, after a winter day of fishing near Slidell, Louisiana, with angler Tim Achor-Hoch, left. With literally hundreds of bull reds and large jacks in the water, Sams and Achor-Hoch wouldn’t settle for anything small. The two stripped hookless, topwater flies to attract the fish to the surface so they could pick and choose the ones they wanted to catch. Says Sams: “It was the best day of redfishing I have ever had.”
