Boston Harbor Report

These fish are feeding like we are in fall run mode...

I just can’t get over the amount of bait that is in Boston Harbor right now. Hoards of tinker mackerel have shown this week on top of all the herring, baby bunker, big bunker and other bait that is already here.

Along with all of the bait, more stripers and blues have been coming in with some nice fish mixed in. The past several days we have caught quite a few big blues in the 8- to 12-pound range and bass on top waters and pogies from 16 to 44 pounds.

These fish are all fat and happy and are feeding well every day. The funny part is that usually August is the slowest month for the harbor as the warm water and hot days make the fish sluggish and less willing to feed during the day, but not this year.

These fish are feeding like we are in fall run mode and we are still a few weeks away from that crazy fishing we all wait for after August. All I can say is things are going to explode over the next few weeks and we should have fish here well into the end of October if this great weather keeps up. So all I can say is if you are looking to get into some great fishing for both striped bass and bluefish and catch that fish of a lifetime, it just can’t get any better than now through the next two months.

As for the bluefin tuna, the bite is back on and there are some nice tuna coming over the rail. We had tuna showing up and eating right outside of the harbor at Thieves Ledge. A friend of ours was out bass fishing in that area a few days ago and got spooled by one of those speed demons!
