Q: My leader ends in a pile at 90 feet when casting an SA Streamer Express 250-grain line on a Sage Xi2 rod. The loop appears OK until the end when the fly line overruns the end of the loop and kicks under pulling the leader with it. I have better success with a 350-grain line and an 8-weight rod. What am I doing wrong?

A: The most probable cause is too much line speed. The loop unrolls, and at the end it wants to continue, so it flips under and tangles. The other reason may be that your leader is too short. The leader acts like a tail on a kite and slows the line down near the end of the cast, preventing the problem.
