At the 35th Blue Marlin Classic out of Club Nautico of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Captain Pepi Alfonso was fishing his 31 Contender, Fuakata, with anglers Juan Nieves, Omar Ortega and David Caro when they caught a billfish slam. The first fish was a blue marlin that hit the center rod. After a fight of nearly three hours, they boated a marlin that weighed just under 200 pounds but fought as though it weighed 350 because it was foul-hooked. The sailfish was next, on the same rod, and was brought in on the 50-pound-test line after ten minutes. The white marlin completed the slam. They all hit the same Top Gun Aussie Nightmare stiff-rigged with a Mustad 9/0 hook about 12 miles southwest of Desecheo Island, off the west coast of Puerto Rico.
