Jim Teeny pioneered the development of integrated sinking lines, but his company also makes specialty and high-performance fly lines. The Professional Series is one of the most popular, with saltwater tapers designed by Lefty Kreh, Flip Pallot and Billy Pate, and now a striper line devised by New England guide Dan Marini.
Marini’s taper configuration incorporates all the elements of a fly line he wanted for chasing stripers, bluefish and false albacore in the Northeast. The result is a line that’s designed to cast smoothly and efficiently in cold water and has a core that keeps it from tangling under cooler conditions. It has a 35-foot fast-sinking head to allow longer casts, combined with a 70-foot intermediate running line to help it settle through surface chop and eliminate slack underwater. In addition, Marini made the running line thicker than usual so it would be easy to handle and less prone to coiling. The line also features Teeny’s new High Performance Coating to enhance its shooting ability.
The Marini striper line is available in three different grain weights, a 275 for 7- to 9-weights, a 375 for 8- through 10-weights and a 475 for 9- to 12-weight rods. The lines sink at 6, 7 and 8 inches per second, respectively, and all measure 105 feet overall. The retail price is $62.
