Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach Report Dec 2009

Cold weather turns on the redfish!!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

Thanksgiving has come and gone but the redfish are schooling up and eating well.. Redfish can be found tailing all day long as long as the wind doesn’t blow to hard. Toss a live shrimp to these tailers will suck it down as soon as it see’s it!!!! A stealthy approach is key to get into range of these spooky fish…

Big gator trout are starting to show up in good numbers, these fish are the spookiest fish on the flats!!!! Sand spots are ideal to sight fish these spooky giants..Freeline a mullet or chuck your favorite topwater plug for some awesome trout action!!!

Some snook are still aound the docks and bridges. As the water temp. drops the snook retreat to deep water to escape the cold…

Flounder are another excellent fish to target as the water clears up. Live shrimp or jig bounced off the bottom near creek mouths or sandbars should keep you busy with these excellent flat fish!!!!

December is a great month to fish in the Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach, cooler temps and clean water makes sight fishing incredible!!
