The year-long Tag-and-Flag Tournament sponsored by AFTCO continues its mission to create awareness and participation by recognizing conservation-minded anglers and captains. The 2002 Atlantic Ocean Captain of the Year trophy went to Paul Ivey, while the Atlantic Ocean Angler of the Year trophy was awarded to Denise Carton. The 2002 Pacific Ocean Captain of the Year trophy was awarded to Ken Mongreig and the Pacific Ocean Angler of the Year went to Paul Bender. The tournament is involved with tagging programs in both the Atlantic and Pacific, including The Billfish Foundation, National Marine Fisheries Service Cooperative Game Fish Tagging Program and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The American Sportfishing Assoc-iation, the International Game Fish Association, the National Coalition for Marine Conservation, the Recreational Fishing Alliance and United Anglers of Southern California sponsor trophies.
