When it comes to educating audiences on the latest fishing tactics, methods and strategies, as well as providing specific how-to and where-to information for catching both inshore and offshore game fish within their region, Salt Water Sportsman’s National Seminar Series is in a league of its own. The Seminar Series has packed auditoriums with sell-out crowds since its inception in 1988, and this January it is preparing to embark on its 15th consecutive tour.
“The special 15th Year Anniversary Tour promises to be the most informative and entertaining one yet,” says SWS Senior Editor and Seminar Series Host, George Poveromo. A nationally recognized fishing authority and ESPN2 TV-show host, Poveromo will be joined at each location by national teaching teams composed of fellow SWS staffers and fishing pros. Some of the top names include Barry Gibson, Rip Cunningham, John Brownlee, Al Ristori, Tom Waters, Harry Vernon III, Dave Workman, Dr. Mitchell Roffer, Donna H. Gowen, Matt Muzslay, John T. Pirie and Jimmy Price. Additionally, a minimum of eight local experts will join the national team on stage at each stop.
Never before has so much talent been on the card. The objective of the hand-picked teaching teams is to provide the audience with the most accurate, up-to-date information on how to successfully catch fish in their region. Knowledge accumulated over decades of fishing experience will be dispatched in entertaining, action-packed sessions geared toward anglers of all experience levels. Each session is supported by informative slides, diagrams and on-stage demonstrations. Image-magnification technology allows the audience to view detailed fishing charts, step-by-step rigging instructions, lures, baits, knots and more on a pair of huge 10- by 10-foot screens. Furthermore, each student will receive a brand-new, 148-page textbook full of tips, techniques and vital how-to information. Seminars are held on selected Saturdays, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding by 4:00 p.m.
Long considered the best bargain in sport fishing, a Seminar Series ticket costs only $45. The price covers six hours of instruction from the pros in your region, the comprehensive textbook, a one-year subscription or extension to Salt Water Sportsman magazine, one Roffer’s Offshore Fishing Forecast Analysis (not available in California) and chances to win valuable door prizes. The Grand Prize at each location is a fishing vacation for two to the Kamalame Cay Resort on Andros Island in the Bahamas. The Super Grand Prize, to be awarded two weeks after the conclusion of the 2002 series, is Mako Marine’s new 171 Center Console powered by Honda’s 90-hp, four-stroke outboard. This special Seminar Series Edition Mako is equipped by the seminar sponsors and includes a FLOAT-ON trailer.
