Actually you can find some excellent Real Estae deals in that area these days.
Other than Islamorada, Port Solerno is my favorite fishing port in FL.
An hour N of there is Sabastion which also has excellent fishing .

It's an interesting discussion. Walking the docks in OC I would say it's 50/50 with the mates there.
I like the swivel rigs myself and rig mine through the v on the top jaw (same spot where the pin comes out on a pin rig).

It depends on what the fish are doing. Live ballyhoo is SOP in the keys but if you need to cover more territory trolling dead ones is the way to go. And nakeds with circle hooks are best.

Jigging rods are perfect to double as bottom fishing rigs.
I have a Torium 30 paired with a Star Stellar Lite jgging rod,it's perfect for groupers and snappers.

When pomps are in the intercoastal areas of Fl look for them on the edge of the navigational channels in 4 to 10 feet of water.
