I, Capt. Dave Showell, have been the owner of Absecon Bay Sportsman Center for over 25 years and fishing the back bays here for many more. Since the rebound of the striped bass in the 1990’s I have been fishing for them almost exclusively. I prefer using light tackle and live bait, especially HERRING in the springtime and Live Spot whenever they are available.
In my bait and tackle shop I am dedicated to keeping the best inventory of everything needed for the local fishing, and I definitely have a larger selection on live bait than any shop in New Jersey. My Guided trips are planned for each party and I try to make every day a learning experience as well as a great fish catching experience.


I have evolved to what I consider an absolutely fantastic boat for this back bay fishing. I have a 20’ Scout split console with a 175 Johnson outboard and a 80 pound thrust Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor on the bow. The Lowrance electronics help me find the fish and my exact position so we can keep catching them. There is room for up to three anglers to cast lures or drift live baits over some of the most productive areas anywhere.
