Toothpick Trolling

st_tip9_220x264.gif

Sometimes I troll with spinning gear, and I want to put a couple of flat lines out. After I pay out the line and set the drag, I pull the line from the tip of the rod down to the first guide on the rod. I make a loop in the line, pass the loop through the eye and insert a toothpick through the loop. The drag of the trolled bait holds the loop in place. The spread tracks true and the setup seems to reduce tangles, improves lure presentation and alerts anglers of a strike very well.
