Reader Tips: Bead Rattles for Hooks

Use shrink tubing to affix a bead rattle to a long-shank hook to add sound to your baits.

Rattle and Hum!

Use shrink tubing to affix a bead rattle to a long-shank hook to add sound to your baits and lures. You can get the tubing at your local hardware or electrical-supply store in various sizes and fish-attracting colors. Simply cut to length, and slip the tubing over the hook shank with the rattle. Make sure the rattle is positioned on the backside of the shank and that the tubing overlaps both ends of the rattle. Apply heat to finish the job. This works well on long-shank fluke hooks, large bluefish and striped bass hooks, single-hook diamond jigs, and bucktail jigs.
