Reader Tips: Goodbye Twist

Attach the snap of a quality ball-bearing swivel to a stationary object...

If you ever find yourself with a reel full of twisted line due to winding against the drag or retrieving a lure that spins, you can use the time-tested method of streaming your line in the boat's wake to remove the twist. But if you don't have a boat, there is another remedy. Find an area (a baseball field is perfect) where you can walk all your twisted line out and attach the snap of a quality ball-bearing swivel to a stationary object, such as a baseball backstop fence. Attach your fishing line to the swivel ring. Walk your line out past the twists, put your reel in gear or close the bail, tighten your drag, put a good bend in your rod and slowly walk toward the swivel as you reel in your line.
