Quicker Castnet Repair

I often use my castnet in the shallows, but it can be a nightmare to keep it working properly. When the net hangs up on the bottom and my drawstrings pull loose, I miss shots at bait while I’m repairing the net. I fixed the problem with some of my wife’s Christmas ribbon. Before I use a new castnet, I tie 8″ strips of 1/4″ ribbon on the base rope to mark the locations where the drawstring is attached. A couple of overhand knots work just fine. If a drawstring pulls loose, I can quickly reattach it in the correct spot. The ribbon works particularly well because it is waterproof, easy to see in the dark and will usually outlast the net.
