Even experienced, professional gaffers-fishing-show hosts, SKA contenders charter boat deckhands, to name a few-sometimes miss with the hook. I've come up with a low-cost, effective solution. I put a couple of wraps of brightly colored electrical tape on the shank of the gaff directly opposite the point of the hook. The tape gives you a visual reference of where the hook's point is in relation to the target. Since I did this to my gaff, I've only missed two fish, where before I used to muff dozens each month.
