West Palm fishing club to host Fly Tying Expo

Free August 3rd event will help fly tiers hone their skills

West Palm Beach – The West Palm Beach Fishing Club (WPBFC) will host a Fly Tying Expo on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at their clubhouse located at 201 Fifth Street (corner of North Flagler Drive & 5th Street) in downtown West Palm Beach. The workshop is free of charge and open to anyone interested in learning more about fly tying. The Expo will feature several fly tying and fly fishing experts, including Darren Selznick from the Ole Florida Fly Shop in Boca Raton, and local fishing guides Captain’s Barry Brimacomb and Scott Hamilton, plus local fly tier Robert Venable (son of flats guide Capt. Frank Venable). Other experts may participate as well.

These fly tying pros will conduct a very informative program demonstrating the techniques they use to tie some of their favorite saltwater fishing patterns. This Expo is designed for those who want an introduction to fly tying techniques or for those who want to improve their existing fly tying skills. The Expo will also be a great opportunity to network with other fly tying and fly fishing enthusiasts. Brimacomb will coordinate the evening program. He is an accomplished fly tier, a Lake Worth Lagoon light tackle expert and a current member of the WPBFC board of directors. Workshop participants should bring their own tying vise and tying materials if they have some. A limited supply of tools and materials will be supplied by the WPBFC. Kid’s are welcome to participate, however children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are not necessary.

The WPBFC is a non-profit membership sportfishing club that actively promotes family fishing activities, ethical angling practices and marine conservation efforts. The WPBFC clubhouse is a designated historic landmark and features an extensive collection of mounted game fish and historical fishing memorabilia. Established in 1934, the WPBFC is one of the oldest and largest institutions of its type found in the United States.
