Tag-a-Giant and Bluefin USA Team Up

Clothing company to donate substial portion of sale to tuna conservation program

Clothing manufacturer Bluefin USA has pledged 15 percent of sales of a new sportfishing apparel line will be donated to the Tag-A-Giant (TAG) Fund of The Ocean Foundation to support TAG’s international bluefin tuna research and conservation programs.The arrangement was developed in 2011 when Bluefin USA founder and CEO Eros Cattaneo contacted TAG Director George Shillinger regarding his interest in developing a high-quality cause-related sporting apparel line.

“We are committed to working with anglers to promote conservation of valuable marine resources and no fishery deserves our attention more than bluefin tuna, ”said Cattaneo.

Together, Cattaneo and Shillinger developed the TAG-BLUEFIN USA apparel collection, with an initial launch that will include jackets, bibs, shorts, pants and a variety of t-shirts -- some in a special commemorative edition in light blue/coral and yellow.

Clothing from the “Tag-A-Giant” sportfishing apparel collection can be purchased online at www.bluefinusa.com or directly through the Bluefin USA dealer network. Tag-A-Giant is a non-profit arm of a Stanford University research program formed in 2006 by a core group of TAG scientists and supporters including Mr. Richard Worley, Mr. John Hill and Mr. Mike Leech. Dr. Barbara A. Block, a professor at Stanford University, is the scientific advisor of TAG. Block has over twenty-five years of experience tracking tunas, billfish and sharks; her Stanford laboratory conducts research on captive bluefin, genetics, physiology and electronic tagging.
