Red Snapper Closure
The NOAA sages wish to inform you that the recreational season for red snapper in the Federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico closed at 12:01AM on 5 August. Possession of those fish is now prohibited until 12:01AM on 1 June 2009.
In order to be consistent with new Federal regulations for recreational fishing in the EEZ, the La. Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has imposed similar rules for state waters to aid in enforcement and overall clarity. The size limit on gray triggerfish is therefore now increased from 12" TL to 14" FL (That's a pretty damn big triggerfish!), and the size limit for greater amberjacks is now increased from 28" FL to 30" FL. The limit of greater amberjacks for the captain and crew of a charter vessel has been reduced to zero. Also, all anglers pursuing reef fish, no matter if that will be in state or Federal waters, must now possess and use non-stainless circle hooks, a de-hooking device, and a venting tool.
